Optional broker/clearing or contract-note charges not otherwise modelled. Enter an already tax-inclusive round-trip amount.

Switching this off excludes automated NSE/IPFT, SEBI, STT, stamp-duty and GST estimates. Brokerage and Other charges still apply.

Calculation method

Formula & methodology

The result above is backed by the calculator-specific formulas and assumptions shown here.

Long break-even(Exit − Entry) × Quantity − round-trip charges(Exit) = 0
Short break-even(Entry − Exit) × Quantity − round-trip charges(Exit) = 0
Exit-sensitive chargesCharges are recalculated from the solved exit turnover; they are not approximated as fixed charges ÷ quantity.
Method & assumptions

The calculator is deliberately limited to a single NSE equity-derivative leg closed before expiry. It does not model exercise, assignment, expiry settlement, physical settlement or multi-leg strategies.

For the verified 2026 rate set, NSE transaction plus IPFT is ₹183 per crore each side for equity futures and ₹3,553 per crore of premium each side for equity options. SEBI turnover fees are ₹10 per crore.

From 1 April 2026, STT is modelled at 0.05% of futures sale-side traded value and 0.15% of option premium on the sale side. Option exercise is intentionally outside this v1 scope.

Stamp duty is modelled on the buy side at 0.002% for equity futures and 0.003% for equity options.

The GST estimate is 18% of brokerage plus NSE transaction/IPFT plus SEBI turnover fees. STT, stamp duty and user-entered already-tax-inclusive other charges are not included in that GST base. A broker contract note can differ because of broker-specific billing or charge treatment.

Brokerage is always a user input. The calculator does not hard-code a brokerage plan, lot-size database, margin requirement or tax treatment of F&O income.

The break-even price is solved from gross trading P&L minus exit-dependent round-trip charges equal to zero, using full internal precision and presentation rounding only.

Important assumption

This is an educational charge and break-even estimate, not investment, tax or trading advice. Verify actual charges against your broker contract note. Rates and exchange levies can change after the displayed verification date.

Help & assumptions

Frequently asked questions

Important assumptions and practical details for this calculator.

Why is break-even not simply entry price plus charges divided by quantity?+

Because several exit-side charges depend on the exit turnover itself. The calculator solves the full equation with charges recalculated at the candidate exit price instead of freezing charges at the entry price.

Does this include option exercise or expiry charges?+

No. This version is intentionally limited to an option premium position squared off before expiry. Exercise, assignment, expiry and physical settlement can use different charge bases and are excluded.

Is brokerage fixed at ₹20?+

No. Brokerage is always entered by the user. The examples use ₹20 each side only as a test vector, not as a broker assumption.

What does “User-entered charges only” do?+

It switches off automated NSE/IPFT, SEBI, STT, stamp-duty and GST estimates. The calculator then uses the entered brokerage and Other round-trip charges only, which can help reconcile against a broker contract note.

Does the calculator know NSE lot sizes?+

No. Lot sizes can change and differ by contract. Enter the total quantity you actually want to model.

Does this calculate income tax on F&O trading?+

No. Income-tax classification, expenses, turnover, audit rules and return filing are outside this break-even calculator.
