Formula & methodology
The result above is backed by the calculator-specific formulas and assumptions shown here.
P × [((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i)P = monthly contribution, i = monthly assumed return, n = number of monthly contributions. Contributions are treated as occurring at the beginning of each month.
P × nUsed when the expected annual return is exactly 0%.
Monthly contribution × Number of monthsFuture value − Total investedThe expected annual return is converted to a monthly rate by dividing by 12 and by 100.
The entered duration is converted to the nearest whole number of monthly contributions.
Monthly contributions are assumed to occur at the beginning of each month, which is why the annuity factor is multiplied by (1 + i).
The return is assumed to remain constant for the full period. Real investments fluctuate and returns are not guaranteed.
SIP results are illustrations based on an assumed constant return. Market-linked investments do not provide a fixed or guaranteed rate of return.

Frequently asked questions
Important assumptions and practical details for this calculator.
Is the SIP return guaranteed?+
No. The annual return is an assumption used for estimation. Market-linked investments can produce higher or lower returns.
Why does the formula include (1 + i)?+
This implementation treats each monthly contribution as being invested at the beginning of the month, giving it one additional month of growth compared with an end-of-month contribution.
Does the calculator include taxes or investment fees?+
No. Taxes, fund expenses and platform charges are not deducted from the estimate.
How is a decimal investment period converted to monthly contributions?+
The entered number of years is multiplied by 12 and rounded to the nearest whole monthly contribution. For example, 1.05 years becomes 12.6 months, which is rounded to 13 contributions.
Are the monthly contributions assumed to happen at the beginning or end of the month?+
This calculator uses a beginning-of-month convention. Each contribution is assumed to be invested before that month’s growth is applied.
