Formula & methodology

The result above is backed by the calculator-specific formulas and assumptions shown here.

Method & assumptions

For Tax Year 2026-27, this calculator retains “Section 80C” in the public name because it is the familiar search term, while the current-law deduction is implemented as Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 with qualifying payments described in Schedule XV.

The user enters eligible amounts rather than raw product balances. Product-specific conditions, holding periods, payment limits, relationship tests and documentary eligibility are not inferred automatically from the category name.

Under the normal regime, the deduction is the lower of total eligible amounts and ₹150,000 for the tax year.

Under the selected new regime, the calculator shows the entered contribution total for information but returns a Section 123 deduction of zero.

An amount should not be entered here if it is being claimed again under another provision. This calculator does not resolve double-claim or product-eligibility disputes.

This version deliberately does not estimate tax saved because that would require additional assumptions about taxable income, slab rates, surcharge, cess and other deductions.

Important assumption

This is an educational Tax Year 2026-27 deduction estimate, not tax, legal or investment advice. Enter only amounts that independently satisfy the applicable Schedule XV/product conditions and avoid double claiming the same amount.

Help & assumptions

Frequently asked questions

Important assumptions and practical details for this calculator.

Why does this calculator say Section 80C / Section 123?+

Section 80C is the familiar legacy/search term. For Tax Year 2026-27, this calculator implements the corresponding deduction under Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 and Schedule XV.

What is the deduction limit used by this calculator?+

Under the normal regime, the calculator applies a maximum Section 123 deduction of ₹1,50,000 for the tax year.

Should I enter the full amount invested in a product?+

Not necessarily. Enter only the amount that is eligible after applying the product-specific legal conditions. The calculator intentionally labels the field “Eligible amount” rather than assuming every rupee invested qualifies.

Does the new regime allow this deduction in the calculator?+

No. Selecting the new regime returns a Section 123 deduction of zero, while still showing the contribution total for information.

Does this calculator estimate how much tax I save?+

No. Tax saved depends on taxable income, applicable slab rates and other facts, so this version calculates only the deduction amount and remaining cap.

Can the same contribution be claimed twice?+

No amount should be double claimed. This calculator totals the eligible amounts you enter but does not adjudicate whether an amount has already been claimed under another provision.
